KP Law is helping Sainsbury’s store workers fight for equal pay
Sainsbury’s has admitted that its store workers do roles that are comparable to their distribution centre colleagues. The supermarket giant must now prove that there is a good reason why it does not pay its store and distribution workers equally.
If Sainsbury’s cannot do this, and gender discrimination is the reason why store and distribution workers are not paid equally, Sainsbury’s may have to pay affected employees thousands of pounds in compensation each.
While female store workers will lead our equal pay case, their colleagues may also be eligible for compensation if we are successful. As such, all Sainsbury’s store workers were able to join our equal pay claim.
KP Law specialises in complex, multi-claimant litigation. We investigate the underlying circumstances of each case, assess the available evidence and work with leading legal and technical experts.
We coordinate claims collectively so that common legal and factual issues can be considered efficiently, while ensuring that individual circumstances are taken into account.
Anyone who was working at a Sainsbury’s store, or had previously worked at a Sainsbury’s store in England or Wales in the last six years on an hourly rate was affected by this pay disparity.
KP Law is pursuing claims against leading UK supermarkets concerning alleged breaches of equal pay law. The claims concern potential disparities between predominantly female shop floor workers and predominantly male warehouse and distribution centre workers undertaking work of equal value. KP Law believe this pay disparity is largely due to the gender imbalances in each workforce, and the lesser perceived value of women’s labour, which constitutes a breach of equal pay laws.
The proceedings seek to establish whether these pay disparities are lawful and secure compensation and justice for affected workers.
